Ris-CuRE. Zero waste recovery of copper tailings in the ESEE region
Investment value: 1,5 mio EUR
Our role: partner
Year of the design of technical documentation: 2019 - 2021
In the past, intensive copper (Cu) extraction in ECEC countries using outdated technologies with low extraction rates has led to the formation of large quantities of different types of tailings. Such tailings have also historically caused severe pollution of groundwater, soil and air.
RIS-CuRE activities are based on innovation, bringing together all relevant stakeholders in industry, research and education - state-of-the-art knowledge and zero waste. Such an integrated eco-innovative approach to the extraction of mineral raw materials and the beneficial use of the residues after metal extraction, provides a guarantee for the successful development of a Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) based on the exploitation of tailings, which is, from an economic, organisational, technological and environmental point of view, the most feasible option.
